With a view to enrich the people of Azad Jammu & Kashmir with the education of Science & Technology, Engineering faculty, bearing the name of Ali Ahmed Shah University College of Engineering & Technology, was established in 1980. The college catered for the requirements of the students in the realm of science & technology under the auspices of Azad Jammu and Kashmir University. This college, located in the beautiful city of Mirpur, proved to be a worthy seat of learning for engineer graduates in five disciplines such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Basic Sciences and Computer Science and Information Technology. Meritorious services rendered by this Technical institution are virtually laudable. The students having been bestowed upon degrees in their respective disciplines, mentioned above, are serving the nation enthusiastically, at home and abroad. Keeping in view the standard and requirements, this college has very recently been upgraded as Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST) Mirpur A.K through ordinance XVIII of 2008 on 15th day of August 2008. The objective laid down in ordinance is To enhance facilities for higher education and research in the state of Azad Jammu & Kashmir.The new status heralds a new sign of revolutionary uplift of the University. Evidently there are certain requirements rather pressing ones first and foremost is that of land which has already been awarded is 600 acres. It may fulfill the requirements to a great extent. It is wisely hoped that the changed scenario will bring about healthy environment academically. The new university with the new name of MUST is really a vestige of a new era in terms of imparting education in a unique style and fashion. Ours is an auspicious transformation from smaller to bigger, from lower to higher and from better to the best in the real sense of the term. Our qualified staff is devoted to the very cause of sublimity and perfection. The veteran staff, embodiment of professionalism is conducting dual class work such as morning as well as evening classes in all the disciplines. There is another scheduled addition of discipline of Civil Engineering has been started.Living in this age of marvelous scientific and technological achievements, advancements in these fields are intrinsically of paramount importance. The University has started functioning with the building infrastructure, faculty and other faculties already available at Ali Ahmed Shah University College of Engineering & Technology Mirpur. The Faculty of Home Economics and Institute of Islamic Studies are situated right in the heart of the city. The University shall be shifted to its new location; a picturesque spot Sainse, 25 kilometers away from the city on the main Mirpur-Bhimber road. Plans have been made to acquire 5000 kanals of land in total, out of which 4229 Kanal on state land have already been awarded by the Govt. of Azad Jammu & Kashmir. The remaining chunk is expected to be awarded / purchased soon.Mirpur University of Science & Technology Mirpur A.K differs in its character from AJ&K University Muzaffarabad by its high powered body “Senate”; a body with full integrity of formulating status, rules and regulations, purchasing, maintaining and disposing of moveable and immoveable property, creation and abolition of posts and maintenance of academic and administrative disciplines. Such a body is non-existent in AJ&K University. Our new born university MUST is endeavouring its best to accept the challenges of the day and come up to the national expectations and aspirations. We are equipping our laboratories with modern apparatus so that we may be able to slake the thirst of our students. The MUST is determined to produce such material as to prove the grist to the mill of the nation and not the fake one at all. Enhancement of standard is our pivotal goal and we are doing our best to make the MUST worthy by all standards. It will touch the bliss of eminence in a short span of time.We are also with a plan of establishing our campus at Sainse, Mirpur in the near future; such features shall go a long way in elevating the MUST, to transcending excellence.
